Escaping the Buffet in VaraderoLeaving the Resort to Enjoy a Wealth of Cuisine in the City
Affordable resort vacations offer many travelers a chance to experience Cuba. Venturesome visitors can escape the buffet to sample the culinary delights of Varadero.
For an economic Caribbean vacation it is hard to beat Cuba as a destination. Vacation packages to Varadero are often featured on inexpensive travel websites. Oceanfront, all-inclusive resorts line the 24 kilometers of beaches and for very low prices travelers can enjoy a week or longer in a tropical paradise. The buffet restaurants within the resort complexes often offset the affordable vacations that many international visitors indulge in. Buffets are a Resort MainstayFor resort goers breakfast, lunch and most dinner meals are eaten at the buffets. Often a la Carte restaurants within the resorts operate just for dinner service, are by reservation only, and each guest has a restricted number of visits per week. The buffet restaurants will change up their evening menus with a few special dishes of fresh local fare however many of the daily dishes remain the same. After a few days of noshing on repetitious breakfast, lunch, and dinner dishes many travelers hunger for a taste of the exotic. All of the hotels along the beaches of Varadero are a short distance to the centre of quaint Varadero city. Even before reaching the edge of the city restaurants begin to spring up along the road offering the promise of a savory meal. Visiting VaraderoAs there are only a few major streets within Varadero vacationers easily navigate the neighbourhoods. The city offers up a multitude of eateries and bars easily accessible while strolling the sidewalks. The local cuisine is strongly Spanish influenced though there are many uniquely Cuban dishes and libations including the mojito, the birthplace of which is in Havana. There are also several foreign restaurants including French, Italian, and Chinese. With the cost of most meals falling below $50 for two people including drinks and gratuity it is very reasonable to eat out in the city. The selection of venues varies from light, lunch style cafes to indulgent, full course dinner restaurants. Local and FreshThe seawaters surrounding the peninsula provide an abundance of fresh seafood, which can be had in almost every establishment with lobster and shrimp being menu staples. The climate offers a smorgasbord of tropical fruit and lush vegetables. The traditional daiquiri ingredient coconut is plentiful and fresh with palm trees growing throughout the city. Rum, being locally made, is readily available, very affordable and drinks are poured stiff. Getting off the resort for a bite can be a welcome respite from the monotony of the buffet. With so much to experience in the city travelers will get far more than just a sumptuous meal. It is definitely worth the quick trip, often just a leisurely walk, into the city to enjoy all that Varadero has to offer.
